Templar Guide — AION 2 Global (Season 1)
The fortress of the roster — the only class built to hold a boss's attention so seven other people can deal damage.
Is Templar right for you?
Why players pick it
- The only pure tank on Global. Templar is the class NC designed around enmity (aggro) control, blocking and damage mitigation. Five- and ten-player dungeons are balanced around having one.
- Group invites come to you. At the level 45 cap, group content is the game — and every group needs a tank. A geared Templar is the fastest class to place into parties.
- It brings more than defense. Templar adds a real party damage buff, so taking one is not a tax on the group's DPS. Its signature Judgment skill opens a no-cooldown Specialty at level 16.
- Forgiving gear ladder. You are the last to die and often the first to be geared, because tanks receive priority on defensive upgrades that others skip.
Know before you commit
- Slowest solo kill speed of the eight. Your rotation is built for survival, not burst. Questing alone takes visibly longer than on a DPS class.
- The party feels every mistake. Dropped enmity or a mistimed block wipes groups. You carry responsibility the DPS never will.
- Less to do in solo content. Open-world farming and solo instances are the weakest part of the kit.
Best fit: Dungeons & raids — you will never wait for a party
No take-backs: Global has no class change, and Stigma, Skill Points and enhancement materials are all invested in one character. Deleting a character now carries a 24-hour wait — rerolling is possible, but planning first is cheaper.
Leveling 1–45 as Templar
Follow the yellow Episode quests — they carry ~80% of early XP. Activate every Kibelisk you pass for fast travel, equip quest gear immediately, and don't enhance gear you'll replace within five levels.
Stigma plan for Templar: Prioritize enmity generators and block/mitigation Stigmas first, then the party damage buff. Slots open at level 22, 27, 32 and 37 — four total by endgame. Do not spend early Stigma picks on damage skills you will replace at 27.

The level 37–45 stretch finishes the Episode and Ascension chains; Ascension unlocks zones, dungeons, Stigmas and the Daevanion system, so don't skip it. The Season 1 Global cap is 45 (Korea/Taiwan are at 50 — ignore KR build guides for now).
Templar at the level 45 cap
Every group activity wants you. Progression switches from character level to Item Level: run Sealed Dungeons for Skill Points, Regional Quests for accessories, and follow the gear ladder (Regional Quests → Sealed Dungeons → Strongholds → Empyrean Traces → Conquest Expeditions). 2,800 Item Level unlocks the Abyssal Forge: Ludra.
Templar FAQ
Is Templar the best tank in AION 2?
It is the only dedicated tank on the Global roster. The Gladiator can off-tank in a pinch, but groups that want a real wall take a Templar.
Is Templar good for beginners?
Yes — if you enjoy group play. The rotation is simple, but you are responsible for the party's survival, so learn each dungeon's boss patterns. Solo questing is slow, which is the real beginner tax.
Can Templar deal damage?
It has a respectable damage kit and an off-tank identity, but its main job is holding aggro. Expect to out-damage no one at the cap.
What weapon does Templar use?
A one-handed sword and shield. Your shield skills are core to the rotation, not cosmetic.
