Is Gladiator right for you?

Why players pick it

  • Damage and durability in one kit. Gladiator's passive sustain means you spend health as a resource instead of babysitting it. Four tier lists published for Global put it at or near the top for PvE damage.
  • Every Stigma can go into damage. Because you sustain yourself, you are free to dedicate all four Stigma slots (levels 22, 27, 32, 37) to offense.
  • Genuinely strong in PvP too. Early Global tier lists rate Gladiator S in both PvE and PvP — the only class with that consistency.
  • Forgiving to learn. Wide swings, high HP and self-healing cover a lot of positioning mistakes. The classic recommendation for a first melee character.

Know before you commit

  • Melee competition is real. In crowded open-world fights and packed dungeons, melee-range slots are contested. Positioning matters more than your rotation.
  • It off-tanks, it does not tank. High HP is not the same as enmity control. Real tank duties belong to the Templar.
  • Ceiling requires practice. Easy to play, harder to master — top-tier Gladiator play is about standing in the right place, not pressing harder.
Best fit: Solo leveling and frontline melee — the safest melee pick
No take-backs: Global has no class change, and Stigma, Skill Points and enhancement materials are all invested in one character. Deleting a character now carries a 24-hour wait — rerolling is possible, but planning first is cheaper.

Leveling 1–45 as Gladiator

Follow the yellow Episode quests — they carry ~80% of early XP. Activate every Kibelisk you pass for fast travel, equip quest gear immediately, and don't enhance gear you'll replace within five levels.

Stigma plan for Gladiator: All four Stigma slots go into damage — that is the class's whole design. Core skills to build around: Overhead Slam, with Rending Blow and Ruinous Blow in the rotation. Slots open at level 22, 27, 32 and 37.

The level 37–45 stretch finishes the Episode and Ascension chains; Ascension unlocks zones, dungeons, Stigmas and the Daevanion system, so don't skip it. The Season 1 Global cap is 45 (Korea/Taiwan are at 50 — ignore KR build guides for now).

Gladiator at the level 45 cap

You are the frontline damage of every group and the backup tank when one is missing. Chase Item Level through Sealed Dungeons and Conquest Expeditions (Regional Quests → Sealed Dungeons → Strongholds → Empyrean Traces → Conquest Expeditions); 2,800 Item Level unlocks Abyssal Forge: Ludra.

Gladiator FAQ

Is Gladiator the best AION 2 class for PvE?

Most early Global tier lists place it in S for damage, and it is the melee class newcomers are pointed at first. Tier lists at this stage are consensus opinions, not measured results — but the consensus is unusually consistent here.

Gladiator or Templar?

Pick Gladiator if you want to deal damage and level solo comfortably. Pick Templar if you want instant dungeon invites and do not mind slow solo questing.

Is Gladiator good for beginners?

Yes — it is the most forgiving melee class: durable, self-sustaining and simple to build.

What weapon does Gladiator use?

A greatsword. It is a two-handed weapon with wide cleave animations built for multi-target fights.
